This thesis examined the influence of dominant, Eurocentric view on Humanitarian Design. Looking at this issue from a critical and systemic perspective, Riccardo collaborated with the Ugandan studio Design without Borders. Through joint activities, they explored reflexive and decolonial approaches, applying a double framework emphasising the concepts of “social circle” and “device”. The collection of templates and methods used across the work helped create a guide to empower Design without Borders with reflexivity in their future projects. Ultimately, the thesis concludes with a self-critique on coloniality, advocating for a complete reframing of design to promote a fairer Humanitarian Design practice.
