Litus, a bio-design firm, presents an inventive service crafting illuminated coastal paths using bioluminescent buoys for coastal communities. These buoys, sourced from an algae farm-lab, comprise natural materials—wood, bioplastic, and bioluminescent algae emitting light at night. The company aims to enhance community life by illuminating coastal areas, offering visibility to islands, and fostering a sense of belonging. The pilot project, scheduled for 2030, targets Indonesian fishing villages on Pulau Kubong Island. Litus promotes symbiosis and employs a circular economy approach, utilizing algae to benefit humans sustainably while respecting marine ecosystems.
