Course description

The aim of the course is to convey the theoretical foundations of service design through theoretical lessons and case studies. Service Design and Innovation provides students with an in-depth knowledge of key concepts and theories related to service design and innovation and their relationship with technological and social transformations. The course has two parallel sections, one more focused on smart services and one more focused on public and social change, that students can choose.

Specific sections programs

Smart Services

The course aims to convey the theoretical foundations of Service Design and Service Innovation through a mix of theoretical lessons, case studies, and participative discussions and exercises in class. The course focuses on the most recent evolutions of Service Innovation with special emphasis on the digital turn, the relationship of services with new technologies, and the social, environmental, and political transformations underway. In the course, special attention is given to Artificial Intelligence, and a critical reflection on how this is shaping services today and in the future.

Public and Social Change

The course aims to convey the theoretical foundations of service design through theoretical lessons, case studies, and participative discussion in class. Service Design and Innovation provides students with an in-depth knowledge of key concepts and theories related to service design and innovation at different levels of complexity. The course focuses on the implications of designing for public and social innovation, with guests and experts bringing every year different perspectives on related issues such as power dynamics, policy design, impact measurement, service system transformation, equity, or democracy.

The following code changes the label of the Professors list. If the course has differentiated offer (PS1 ≠ PS2), the label of the first list has the "(PS1)" specification, instead of only "Professors" (default). If the professor is only one, the label is changed with "Professor" (singular).
