The PSSD Design Seminars are one week intensive workshops with international teachers introducing novel perspectives and approaches to the class. The main focus of these workshops is to deepen the implications of designing for environmental sustainability and of designing with and for new and often disruptive technologies. These seminars are informed by current debates on more-than-human design.
The objective of this Design Seminar is to offer a different perspective, introduce participants to the concept of interdependence, and to other ways of “sensing” that is aligned with a planet centred design approach. In collaboration with international experts, students develop ideas and proposals designing with and for plants, animals or the environment. The video is from a Design Seminar of 2024 with Damien Lutz, evidence-based Senior UX Designer and Researcher in Sydney, Australia, founder of the experimental design hubs, lifecentred.design and Future Scouting, and selfpublished author of three fringe design guides. This seminar was developed with the contribution of Terrapreta, an organization that helps landowners, municipalities and community groups reclaim, decontaminate and regenerate their degraded land through the value of soil intelligence.
This Design Seminar aims to offer a different perspective and introduce participants to the implications of designing with and for non-human technological agents such as generative AI. In collaboration with international experts, students critically explore the potentiality and issues of designing with and for new and often disruptive technologies that can deeply transform design practices and service systems, given their agency and the inherent uncertainty of their outcomes.
